Here I am gonna to describe the camera gear I normally take with me; not everything always, but often the most of it, depending on the way we travel.
Let’s start with the hadware:
Cameras are important for a good foto; but they are overestimated. It’s about the right lenses for the right shot. Buy a pro lens and a cheaper camera, not the other way round…
The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a camera I use for years. It is reliable, absolute high end quality, long battery life and a handy size.
After years of using the 5-D, I also bought the Canon EOS 7D Mark II as well because of some advantages I miss with the 5-D. This one is really fast and has the 1,6 crop factor witch helps me with the tele shots.
As I already said, it’s all about the lenses. Here we go:
If I would only take one lens with me, it would be a prime lens and it would be the Sigma 50mm F1,4 DG HSM. Incredible quality, fast aperture, amazing focus.
Another really high end lens, especially for travelling, is the Sigma 35 mm f/1,4 DG HSM. Same quality, same fast aperture, same perfect focus.
Another prime lens, perfect for portrai shots, well known for it’s sharpness and accurate focus, is the Canon EF 85mm/ 1,8/ USM. I really love the Bokeh!
A lens which you definetely shouldn’t leave at home, never, is the Canon EF 70-200 mm / 1:2,8 L IS II USM. Absolutely high end, unbreakable quality, weather sealed.
The Canon EF 17-40mm/1:4,0 L USM is a compromise. It is cheap for quality, which is quite ok, but you cannot compare it to the Sigma Art series or to some other Canon L gear. But it is light-weight, good wide angle and not too expensive.
A lens I bought recently is the Tamron 24-70mm F/2,8. Quite impressed by its quality, I really love to have an image stabilisation with an apperture of 2,8 🙂 By the way, this is the only 24-70 2.8 with image stabilisation on the market.
Alway with me is the Kenko KE-MC4DX1C DGX MC4. It is a cheap teleconverter with high end quality. I prefer it to the Canon converter because of its amazing quality.
For travelling, because of its low weight and because of its small size, I take the AmazonBasics Reisestativ with me. Don’t expect the most stable stand, but for this weight and size, you will not find a better tripod.
If you need a tripod not for travelling, I use a heavier on, but this is 2,7 kg – too much for travelling 😉
Enjoy you camera!
