Arrived in Mirissa Beach, we found a very cool backpacker hotel with direct access to the beach – at the right time to enjoy a very nice sunset. Sunsets at the sea have always something special. Sitting on the beach with friends, enjoying the last minutes of the sun for this day, feeling the warm air and listening to the waves coming to the beach – you don’t need more to enjoy this evening…
View from our room door / breakfast table… pretty good to start the day
Early start into the day, but there were still some people earlier… fishing only during sunrise or sunset, these people were already heavy working.
Here is the result (our evening dinner at a local seafood restaurant)
So the day began with a whale watching tour close to Mirissa beach which was not as successful as expected. We got half of the money back as we did not see any whales. But it was also funny to see all people round getting sick and leaning over the handrail as the boat was really a boat – a tiny one…
Back in the hotel we had a second breakfast, first one was on the tiny boat.
By the way, this was our amazing, outstanding room with the mosquito net 🙂 it was one of the better rooms during the journey, but we will find out that later
So back on track, we took the time for a short stop at the beach side to take some pics of the Weligama fishers sitting on a stick
At the end, I think these people earn more money with pictures than really selling fish
Not far away, another part of the beach where boats are waiting for the sea
A sea close to the road where you can find loads of Lotus flowers – nothing special for Sri Lankan people, but not very common for Europeans. Especially the leafs are quite impressive
As this post is already long enough, I split again the day 2 into 2 posts – will follow up soon.
