As already explained, Cusco in Peru is a very good destination to travel around in Peru as there are so many things to see in the close area (approx 3-4 hours with car / bus).
If you are in Cusco, get up at 3 am and travel to Rainbow Mountain. This will be a 3 hour drive from 3.500 meters above sea level up to 4.200 meters above sea level.
From 4.200 meters above sea level, you will hike up to 5.100 meters above sea level.
Due to the altitude of more than 5.000 meters, this journey is very exhausting, but absolutely worth to do it.
If you are in a good shape, you will not need any oxygen, but to be honest, a lot of people needed that.
We came back at 7 o’clock pm to Cusco for a dinner and felt into bed as the next morning was also an early one to reach Machu Picchu before noon…
Cusco itself is very beautiful city with very old buildings and beautiful old town. Small stores everywhere and a lot of people on the street, selling Alpaca clothes, Coca leafs and other stuff.
Cusco is also the place to start a lot of journeys to some Inca places like Machu Picchu or into the mountains – like Rainbow Mountain – what you will see within the next blog posts.
We have been there in November – spring time in the southern hemisphere – but still very cold during night.
The next day started very early at 3 am in the morning with the climb up to Rainbow Mountain.
A couple of weeks ago we started with our South America trip, flying from Frankfurt to Sao Paulo and had the first stop in Lima / Peru. We only stayed there for one day as Peru has so many things to explore and Lima is just the point to enter Peru.
So we took a couple of hours to see Lima before we flew very early the next morning to Cusco.
The flight to Cusco was very interesting as you arrive between high mountains with an altitude of 3.500 meters above sea level.
